What to Expect

Okay, let’s break it down. ::cue rap music::

Location: I do 99% of my shoots outdoors.  You may pick a location for your shoot, or I’d be happy to find one for you.  At the time we schedule the session, we will decide on a general area where the pictures will be taken.  I typically contact you the day before the shoot to finalize the specific location.

Clothes: Dress in something that is characteristic of you.  You’ll love your pictures that much more if you look, well, like you.  Of course, let’s have some fun with it so feel free to get a little funky. I love bright colors and awesome accessories.  For couples and families, I beg of you not to get too matchy-matchy.  Your pictures look best if you coordinate your colors and patterns, but don’t all show up wearing a black shirt and khakis.

Babies: Let’s face it, they’re as unpredictable as Oklahoma weather.  Don’t panic, parents.  If the little one starts to get upset, we take a break until everyone calms down–that includes you, parents :).  Babies often need a feeding about halfway through, so come prepared.  And don’t you worry about me having to wait.  It’s part of the job and I’m happy to do it.  I want to get you the best pictures possible, and we’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen.  I suggest for these photos bring a few changes of clothes and props if you have them (stuffed animals, baskets, large blankets, stocking caps…the list goes on!).

Kids: I usually like to do kid pictures at a park or some wide-open space where they can run around and play.  I promise you will love these natural pictures more than anything we could do in a studio.  Mom and dad, the main goal is to keep the kiddos happy.  Bring bribes.  I know, I know.  It’s counterproductive to the process of raising a well behaved child….But ask my sister; jelly beans made my nephew a saint for his 2 year photos.

Engagement: I love engagement photos. They can be so artistic and fun.  The main thing here is, once again, please do not match exactly.  Coordination, people.  Coordination!  If you need help, please let me know and I can give you a little more specific guidance.  Couples, be prepared to just be yourself.  I want you laughing, having fun, hugging, kissing, and holding hands.  It’ll be fun, but I’ll need your help.  Just be natural, and I promise it’ll look great!  I’m happy to give some direction for specific shots, but my favorites are always the moments I capture of the two of you simply interacting.
